Farm Table Workshop

Class Description

This is a 2-day class focused on material processing for and construction of a classic hardwood farm table, utilizing the Festool System.

In the Farm Table Workshop, we will cover the tools and techniques necessary to construct and finish a simple, but classic piece of wooden furniture. Though participants will walk away with a range of broadly applicable skills, the class will concentrate primarily on the precise and efficient breakdown, processing, and finishing raw materials using Festool saws, routers, sanders, dust extractors, tables, and more. In short, the class will cover the basics of the Festool System, as applied to real-world furniture building applications.

This should be considered an intermediate level class, and since most of the two days will be spent in the shop using the tools, we request that registrants have some previous knowledge of the Festool System, and/or the basics of trim carpentry or furniture construction. Safety glasses and earplugs will be required during all tool use.

Participants will be asked to sign a standard liability waiver during the registration process or at the outset of class. If this presents a problem, please let us know beforehand, since this will impact our ability to allow you to work with the tools.

Objective:

Participants will leave this class with a better understanding of standard furniture building applications, while learning Festool System based techniques that will enable them to achieve better results in less time, and with less waste.

Participants will learn and work as teams, as they build their skills while creating a farm table. Completed tables will be donated to benefit nonprofit organizations.

Topics

The following topics will be covered:

• Basic wood grain selection and orientation
• Straightlining or jointing glue-ready edges for construction of a tabletop using the TS 75
• Consistent dimensioning of identical components using the Kapex Miter Saw
• Aligning and joining materials into a tabletop using the Domino XL
• Apron to leg joining using the Domino XL
• Proper use of CMS Router Table for precisely beading aprons
• Proper glue up and clamping processes
• Clean and efficient sanding of large surfaces and individual components, including abrasive selection and grit progression
• Safe and precise large-bit edge forming using a handheld router, featuring the OF 2200
